| Subject: Alabama comp - fire damage - CAUTION NOTICE Mon 13 Aug 2007, 11:01 | |
| Doug and I attended the Sand Rock SERCRC comp. The event was awesome and the courses were great.
I had a fairly catastrophic event, two of my lipos exploded on site. They did not vent, they actually turned into a giant fireball.
Damage count; $345 - 3x 5995 TG servos $40 - 4000 Mah Lipo $25 - 1250 Mah Lipo $75 - Charger $30 - 2.2 Body $120 - 2x Spektrum receivers $7 - ball links $225 - 3x Mamba 25
So that is $867 in damage.
So there go my Nationals funds. I will be selling a lot of RC stuff next weekend and some of my Mountain biking stuff to try to recover.
Caution Note;
The cause of the fire is a faulty charger. Everyone please take my pain serious and please charge your batteries outside or in a non-flammable container, such as a clay pot. The container must have a lid, the 4000 Mah pack was a 3 ft wide by 5 ft high fire ball that burnt for 30 sec, and that was only one cell out of 4. It is also a good idea to take the battery out of the vehicle.
Now the good stuff
2.2 class was 20ish people, the first two classes were qualifiers and the top ten went into the finals, third course. I was third going into the finals and finished sixth. I droped back because I had to repair the truck twice with a tool on the last course (the rear drive shaft is a pede slider that is not up to the amount of traction/power I am running).
The Super class was 11 trucks and I had the 2nd or third best score on the first course and then everything caught on fire making my truck unuseable.

| Sorry to hear about the fire. Good to see you could have possibly taken the win in both classes. If you need to sell some items to recoup some $$$ send me a pm, I need axles and some other stuff. | |

| i've always thought our practice of charging while the battaries are still in the RC, not to mention sitting on the engines, was a bit unsafe.
Bad stroke of luck there Rene, hope you get it worked out.
