Im new to the forum, wanted to say hello.

I am not new to the RC world but did just pick up a new AX10 for my son (and myself Very Happy ) Being my first crawler I have a few questions I am sure are basic to you guys.

Its a stock ax10, mounted the batt on the front servo plate, Traxxas drive shafts, wheel weights and holes drilled in the wheels are the only mods.

The problem we are having more than anything is a tricky low idle. Its not slow enough. If you lightly give it throttle it goes from the motor wine to jumping. Its hard to get a steady slow crawl out of it.

Im sure its related to the ESC more than anything. We are using an old Futaba with ESC that came out of a now retired buggy.

Basic ideas from gearing to a ESC more ideal for crawling would be appreciated. Just wanting more slow speed control on the throttle.

Phil from Greensboro.

A 12 to 18 pinion would be a good choice. Depending on how much wheel speed you want. I use a Novak XRS esc in mine and I love it. It has no delay when going into reverse which is what you want to keep from rolling over on steep inclines. Hope that helps.

Futaba s3305 high torque servo with metal gears. Also put a 55t motor, that should fix the "tricky low idle".
