| We're only in the middle of the worst drought NC has seen and some A hole has to go and do this. the idiot probably did it in his own town too.
MAIDEN, N.C. — Hundreds of thousands of gallons of water is draining from a water tower in Maiden because of recently discovered bullet holes.
The tower holds 750,000 gallons of water for Maiden, which is just south of Hickory. Officials must wait for most of the water to drain because repairs must be done inside the holding tank.
Catawba County Sheriff's deputy Major Coy Reid said the tower appears to have been shot three times with a high-powered rifle. He said authorities believe the shooting took place early Monday morning.
Nearby residents heard gun shots but no one called authorities, so the damage wasn't discovered until hours later.
Fixing the damage will likely cost between $15,000 and $20,000

| 30-06 will do that. lotta punch behind that round. even .50 BMG rounds arent that rare with large game hunters. | |

| what a water tank made from? I think it would have to atleast 3/16 thick then you have 750,000 gallons of water on the other side. | |

| armor piercing round itself is pretty hard to come by without being in the military (special ordinance at that).
the round is 163 grain 30-06 FMJ. or 50 calibre. but even harder to find black market.
I suppose if you were crafty with a mold you could make some steel core bullets and load th em yourself. course then its alot easier for the ATF and FBI to trace the round back to you.
The water tank wouldnt be hard all to penetrate. the pressure of the water pushing against the wall would multiply and impact it had from a bullet. even a non ballistic 30-06 round would cut through it like butter.

| 15-20K? I guess that factors in the cost of the water too... I sure would like to be the welder that got paid 15-20K to weld up 3 holes if not. | |
